Facebook-owned photo-sharing site Instagram revealed on Wednesday that its users in India would now be able to access Reels in the Instagram Lite version.
“Now with this update, everyone using the Instagram Lite app in India will be able to view Reels with the Reels tab. This feature was expedited for India because of the traction Reels is seeing in India, and the early adoption of the new Instagram Lite app”
the company said in a statement.
The Instagram Lite app started testing in India in December 2020 with the goal of delivering an app that is less than 2MB in size and is equipped to provide Instagram experience that remains easy and secure for more users.
The app interface is close to the core Instagram app experience, however certain functionality, such as Reels and IGTV development, were not supported at launch.
In addition, Instagram is introducing improvements to the algorithm in order to bring more original content to its website.
Using an algorithm, reels that are mainly text-covered, distorted, have a watermark or label, or have a boundary around it, would not be suggested as often.
