LG Electronics has told other TV brand partners regarding the accessibility of its ecosystem, Web OS TV platform. This means the Web OS is no longer limited to LG. LG made this move in CES 2021 after substantially overhauling its webOS, which was seen. In particular, LG shipped 30 million TVs last year, of which 90% were smart TVs.
The WebOS ecosystem is funded, among many others, by technology partners including Realtek, Nuance, Gracenote, CEVA, and Universal Electronics.
According to LG, about 20 TV companies from all over the world have already committed themselves to webOS collaboration with other partners, including brands such as RCA, Ayonz and Konka.
Park Hyoung-sei, President of the LG Home Entertainment Company, said:
The web OS platform is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to access millions of hours of movies and TV shows. By welcoming other manufacturers to join the web OS TV ecosystem, we are embarking on a new path that allows many new TV owners to experience the same great UX and features that are available on LG TVs. We look forward to bringing these new customers into the incredible world of web OS TV.
